Spectacular West Quoddy Head Light
January 14th, 2010 . by adminCommissioned in 1808 and one of more then 60 Maine lighthouses, West Quoddy Head Light is the easternmost lighthouse in the United States and was the first in the country to use a fog bell. Operated by the Coast Guard, the station and its original third-order Fresnel lens are still active to this day. Following its automation in 1988, the lighthouse was included as part of the adjacent Quoddy Head State Park. The tower is closed to visitors, but you are welcome to enjoy the lighthouse grounds, the Visitor Center and Museum operated by the West Quoddy Head Light Keepers’ Association. The Visitor Center is open daily 10:10 AM to 4:00 from Memorial Day Weekend to mid-October. Handicap parking is available and wheelchair accessible. Please call 207-733-2180 for details
