I’ve been a day skipper for a few years, and I think taking the RYA courses was a great decision. We spend a lot of time out on the ocean now, and since I’ve had my sailing courses, it’s a lot more fun than it used to be. I no longer feel like a beginner out here. I have a real understanding of basic navigation principles, and nothing ever comes up that I don’t understand.

I’ve been contemplating taking some of the more advanced RYA courses. The day skipper certification courses were a lot of fun, and I would like to add to my knowledge. Some of advanced sailing courses will teach you about things like night navigation, which could really come in handy. I just enjoyed the experience of learning so much that I’m probably going back.

My wife also became a day skipper, and she enjoyed the process too. I think that we may go take our next RYA courses together this time. Taking these sailing courses together could almost be seen as a little vacation for us. She’s been pushing the idea, and I think we’re going to do it pretty soon. I’ll just need to clear a little time in my busy schedule, and she’ll have to do the same. The courses were so much fun that it’s pretty easy to justify blowing off work and spending a little time on the ocean.
