Snails and Algae Eaters for your Tank
February 10th, 2010 . by adminSnails and algae eaters are popular companion creatures in many aquariums. They help keep a tank clean by vacuuming up debris or algae, and also add variety to the tank. There is a lot of poor goldfish information about algae eaters and snails. In fact, both snails and algae eaters do not make good tank mates for smaller goldfish. Algae eaters are a type of fish that are voracious eaters of algae. Most algae eaters are territorial, aggressive, and grow large more quickly than goldfish. Algae eaters can stress goldfish through their aggressive behavior, and algae eaters may nip and bite at goldfish. Also, many algae eaters are harmed by the ammonia in the waste of goldfish, so they may not survive. Snails will most likely be very quickly killed by the ammonia in the waste of your goldfish, particularly if your tank is filled with as many goldfish as the volume can handle. If you have an abundance of algae, feed your goldfish a little less. They will eat the algae like it’s their favorite salad.
