What is the problem with orthotics?

The biggest obstacle towards proper foot and ankle motion when you walk is stiff ankles and calf muscles. Since we as Americans have a tendency towards sitting around a bit too much, the ankle and calf muscles slowly lose their flexibility, which causes the arch to drop in order for us to push off of our foot when we are walking. This change, or compensation, we develop to walk grinds down the knees, hips, and low back slowly over the years until the pain becomes a terrible problem. This is another reason why treating the low back without treating at least something in the leg is really useless. And again, treating is more than sticking a piece of foam under it. By properly treating the foot and ankle and restoring the mechanics of the area you can cut down the time it takes your back to heal by a bunch and save yourself $300 on orthotics.
